The Future of Finance

Category : General

Its time to design the future.

The Financial Services Industry has taken a real hammering of late for getting us in this mess, and rightly so, but as we move the target of our venom to the Politicians  (who in my opinion anyhow are equaly as culpable) I wanted to start talking about something altogether more positive - the future.

New Capitalism

What do we as consumers want financial services to be like in the future? Is it going to be like a recent Sunday Times article suggested, full of interesting community orientated start ups like Zopa, Wonga, Mint, YouCouldSave, etc, that wrestle power away from the big banking bohemoths?

Or is it more likely that we are going to be more austere, cautious and less debt ridden, driven not by consumer demand, but by bank balance sheets?

Whats Your Outlook?

I saw this irreverent perpective on finance from Magnus Lindkvist on his blog the other day. I think I know friends who fall into all those categories!

What to Expect from this Blog

Over the coming weeks and months. This blog will discuss how the future is evolving and try to influence it where appropriate and possible.

I'll aim to do this in good company. We aim to get fellow bloggers from both inside and outside all aspects of financial services, past present and future to post, and gain comments from anyone who has a point of view on this subject.

I totally think it's going to go the way of the Zopa etc, it's crowdsourcing finance style!!

For me it's a who trusts who situation. The banks don't trust us and I for one don't the trust the banks. Politicians don't even enter the equation!! Would I trust Zopa, Wonga and co.? They need to be established and would have to come with a personal recommendation from somebody I could trust. With trust will come confidence.
